An honorary degree offers Greenville Technical College the opportunity to confer significant honors to highly deserving individuals who have distinguished and sustained records of enriching the world for our students and our community consistent with the mission of the college.
Greenville Technical College will set forth the standards and procedures for nomination of qualified individuals who have evidenced outstanding achievements, service, leadership and influence within their profession or field of endeavor. Recipients of GTC’s honorary degrees should exemplify the highest of personal character and reflect the college’s values and diversity of interests and backgrounds. Recipients of Greenville Technical College’s honorary degree will enhance the reputation of the college and therefore anything other grants the college the option to resend the degree.
Members of the Area Commission, faculty, staff or administration of Greenville Technical College are not eligible. These persons become eligible two years after termination of such relationship and will be subject to all standards and procedures for nomination. Once approved, the college may award the honorary degree at any time within one year of approval. Honorary degrees are not conferred in absentia or posthumously.
Area Commissioners, GTC Foundation Board of Directors, faculty, students, staff and administration of Greenville Technical College may submit nominations to the President. The President will forward nominations to the co-chairs of the Honorary Degree Committee for the committee’s review and recommendation. The President has the final determination of conference of an honorary degree after receiving the reviews and recommendations of nominations from the Honorary Degree Committee.
Failure to comply with/follow this policy may result in disciplinary action up to and including termination.
